The Chelsea squad: Who should leave?

The Chelsea squad needs an overhaul after a turbulent season. Who should Antonio Conte get rid of this summer?

Thibaut Courtois- STAY.

Chelsea can’t sell Courtois, firstly he is one of the best young goalkeepers and he will become one of the best. Secondly, Chelsea just sold Petr Cech and to Arsenal last summer, can you imagine the fan fury and the egg on their face if they then sold Courtois this summer.

Asmir Begovic- STAY.

I am not saying he will stay, but I think Conte should try and convince him. Even if it is for just one more season and he does get the cup games. There is a lot of work to be done anyways, so Chelsea could do without having to find a new capable backup goalkeeper.

Branislav Ivanovic- GO.

He can’t play as a right back, as how many times has he been done there this season for pace. At centre back, there were improvements, but ultimately better is needed, better off keeping John Terry and it looks likely that only one can be here.

John Terry- STAY.

A true leader on the pitch and he is probably our best centre back at the club. Still has a role to play, even if he isn’t first choice. Better back up than Ivanovic. What he brings in the locker room, no one else currently in the squad can offer.

Gary Cahill- STAY.

But not as first choice.

Kurt Zouma- STAY.

If fit, he and John Terry are first choice centre backs. Both have been a miss in their absences. One of the best young defenders around.

Cesar Azpilicueta- STAY.

Can play either fullback positions. Has lost form recently, but playing in a muddled defence who have been shambolic, so understandable. Under Conte who is looking to sort out the defence he should look back to his best.

Baba Rahman- GO. Loan?

Has looked good going forward, but from a defender you want them to be able to defend first and foremost and has looked shaky doing so.

Perhaps a loan spell? But has to be a loan spell preferably in the Premier League. He needs to bulk up, so he isn’t knocked off the ball so easy. Lacked a pre-season due to the board not getting the deal done until late on.

John Obi Mikel- GO.

The midfield needs a makeover and with the players Conte wants to bring in, Mikel is one of the ones who looks set to leave. He wants to be first choice, he won’t under Conte and therefore time to move on.

Nemanja Matic- STAY.

I don’t know if he will, I suppose it depends on if they can get someone in. However, I would like to see if Conte can get Matic anywhere near back to his best, as he was a key player for Chelsea last season and so would be a great option to have.

Cesc Fabregas- STAY.

Has to stay. One of our most creative players. One of the few other players on the pitch that has shown some leadership and true fight.

Loftus-Cheek- STAY.

Chelsea need him to succeed, a youth player from the Academy has to finally make it.

Kenedy- STAY.

One of the bright spots of this season has been the signing of Kenedy. Seeing the youngster drive forward and play without fear at times has been fantastic to see. A bright future lays ahead, just not at left back as it is a total waste.

Eden Hazard- STAY.

Hazard has had a terrible season and unfortunately at this moment in time is the worst PFA Player of the Season (not the worst player to win the award, the winner with the worst follow up season). However, he did look to be getting back to how he was last season before injury. Fantastic player and as long as he still wants to be here then should stay.

Willian- STAY.

Probably Chelsea’s player of the season, perhaps not so much of  a standout for the second half, but miles ahead in the first.

Pedro- STAY.

Been difficult for Pedro and I have sympathy for him, how awkward it must have been walking into the dressing room when he did. Inconsistent, as while off to a flying start, he then struggled, which was not helped by a couple of injuries but has looked good at times. Finally looks to be adjusting, so don’t think he should leave yet.

Oscar- GO.

This was the season that Oscar was finally meant to step up and be consistent and unfortunately it hasn’t happened. Conte likes to play two up top, so a change of formation, along with Conte wanting Juan Cuadrado back and the fact that the board want Loftus-Cheek to make it, it means he is likely surplus to requirement.

Bertrand Traore- STAY.

Has impressed in the few chances he has been given. Should be one of the four options as a striker, if Conte does play two up top. Can also play out wide which is useful.

Diego Costa- STAY.

Scores goals and can turn the game at any moment. Must stay as strikers are hard to find, and ones who can deliver for Chelsea are even harder.

Loic Remy- GO.

He is pretty much leaving anyways. Wasn’t a bad option first option last season, this has had more injury problems. Conte will want another top striker, so he can play two up top at times or even just for rotation/competition for Costa.

Would like to see a bit more of him play to make a final decision.

Movement has looked good. Nice to see someone at the club who really wants to be there.

However, it really depends on whether he can impress in other chances he may get this season and also depends on who else is available, as if a better option comes up, they might not exercise the option to buy clause.

The good news is that they probably won’t need to rush too much for the decision, although that does say a lot about the player… so should that be he should go?

Radamel Falcao- GO.

He will be leaving and rightly so. What a pointless signing.
