Premier League predictions 2015/2016: Round 8

The final round of Premier League fixtures before yet another international break.

The two big games take place on Sunday this week when Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal and Liverpool travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in a Merseyside derby.

As ever we are here with our predictions for all the weekends action.

Crystal Palace vs West Brom

Megan:

Crystal Palace tend to be better away from home as opposed to at home,  but they are facing a West Brom side who have struggled so far this season. West Brom chucked away a 2-0 lead at Everton last weekend and lost the game 3-2. It is unusual for a Tony Pulis side to ship so many goals.

I am going to go for a Crystal Palace win, I think their attack will cause the West Brom defence trouble. However, I can see West Brom scoring and I can see this game having a few goals.

Score: 3-2

David:

West Brom let a 2-0 lead slip on Monday night when they lost 3-2 at home to Everton and with how well Crystal Palace have been playing at times under Alan Pardew I think they could be in for another defeat.

Score: 2-0

Aston Villa vs Stoke

Megan:

Stoke have really struggled so far this season, but they got a good home win against Bournemouth last weekend which was massive for confidence especially coming into this game. Aston Villa have also made a poor start to the season, but I am going to go for a Stoke win, as I think they have more quality in their attack.

Score: 1-2

David:

Stoke got their first win of the season last weekend while Aston Villa haven’t won since the opening weekend.

Honestly Villa look to be in real trouble and this is just the sort of fixture Stoke need to really get their season going by picking up their second win of the campaign and start working their way up the table.

Score: 0-2

Bournemouth vs Watford

Megan:

Sadly for Bournemouth they have lost Callum Wilson, which is a big blow, and will of course affect the team not just being missing him on the pitch but mentally it will be a blow for them too.

Watford have played well this season, which saw them claim victories over Newcastle away and Swansea at home.

Given this, I am going to predict  a draw between these two sides.

Score: 1-1

David:

Losing Callum Wilson is a big blow for Bournemouth but despite that and with home advantage I think they will still get the win. They play attacking football and always look like they can score a goal, something that can not be said for Watford.

Score: 2-1

Manchester City vs Newcastle

Megan:

Man City were fortunate to win midweek against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, winning with a late penalty, with plenty of poor decisions in that game, including giving a penalty which wasn’t, not giving one which was and getting lucky that failing to spot the ball crossed the line didn’t matter.

Newcastle last weekend played extremely well against Chelsea at home. If they were at home, you would think that they would cause that Man City defence problems, but as they are away and given the win in midweek will have given them confidence, I am going for a Man City win.

Score: 3-1

David:

It all depends which Newcastle show up. The one that got a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, went 2-0 up against Chelsea and almost got a 0-0 at home to Arsenal, or the one that let a 2-0 lead slip against a poor Chelsea side and lost at home to Watford.

If the former Newcastle shows up it could be a tricky afternoon for Manchester City who have lost their last two league games, if not it will be a comfortable for City.

Score: 2-0

Norwich vs Leicester

Megan:

Leicester were undefeated until last week when they lost 5-2 at home to Arsenal.  Norwich have gotten two very good away draws against West Ham and Liverpool in their past two Premier League games, and are unbeaten in four in all competitions.

I expect Leicester to bounce back from this defeat and I expect them to win this game.

Score: 1-3

David:

Leicester suffered their first defeat of the season last week when they lost 5-2 at home to Arsenal while Norwich have been on a good run of their own even managing to get a draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

I think this one will be a close one but with Leicester’s never say die attitude where they fight to the last, they might just nick it.

Score: 1-2

Sunderland vs West Ham

Megan:

I am going for a West Ham win, if they can beat Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City away from home, I expect them to beat this poor Sunderland side. I know West Ham haven’t been great at home, but away they have been amazing.

Score: 0-3

David:

I’m going for a West Ham win here. Sunderland are poor and going down while West Ham are brilliant away from home. Easy as that really.

Score: 0-2

Chelsea vs Southampton

Megan:

All the pressure is on Chelsea in this game. They have started the season so poorly and they look nothing like the team that won the Premier League last year.

Southampton hadn’t started the season as well as expected, but two back to back comfortable wins will have certainly boosted their confidence going into this game.

Chelsea need to bounce back and get a win and John Terry is expected to start, which will bring some order to the backline which has been costly in the past couple of games.

I am going to go for a Chelsea win, John Terry back should bring leadership to the defence, as its very poor goals conceded which have cost Chelsea in the past two games.

Score: 2-1

David:

Where do you start on this one? I want to say Chelsea will just edge this one and get a win but I don’t know anymore. There are some serious serious problems at that club that need sorting out.

Unfortunately for Chelsea Southampton are a good side who can play some brilliant football at times. If Southampton play close to their best they could get an upset Saturday evening, but if Chelsea played like they did against Arsenal they should be able to get a result.

I’m going to go for a draw just because of how unpredictable these two have been this season.

Score: 2-2

Everton vs Liverpool

Megan:

Everton on current form would probably have to be favourites going into this game, but it is a derby and those rules tend to go out the window.

Liverpool drew 1-1 against Sion in the Europa League at home after making seven changes, so which means Liverpool can’t lose and probably have to win now to even justify that selection. This is good news for Everton, the pressure is on Liverpool to really deliver, which is extra pressure they surely don’t want in a derby match.

I am going to go for a draw in this match, as both sides look set to be missing key players and I said form tends to go out the window in matches like these.

Score: 1-1

David:

Things aren’t going well for Brendan Rodgers this season at Liverpool and defeat here could see more fans turning against him. Their style of play is no longer the free-flowing attack they were used to earlier in his reign, they are poor defensively, and look devoid of confidence. The draw with Sion Thursday night in the UEFA Europa League won’t have helped with that.

Everton meanwhile will be going into this game full of confidence after coming back from 2-0 down against West Brom to win 3-2 and with a full week’s worth of rest.

But this being a derby none of that matters, players up their games here. That said I still think Everton might win this.

Score: 2-1

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Megan:

I fully expect Manchester United to win, Arsenal have an atrocious record against Man United in recent years. Manchester United are pulling out results at the moment, and they have leaders in their teams, while Arsenal simply don’t.

Score: 0-2

David:

Another big game for Arsenal to bottle.

With Arsenals record in the big games and with Manchester United beginning to look like a settled side and the brilliance of Anthony Martial I think it will be a win for the away side.

Score: 1-2

Swansea vs Tottenham

Megan:

Tottenham got a fantastic win last weekend at home to Man City and a draw away at Monaco in the Europa League is a decent result. Swansea haven’t won in their last four matches, and didn’t win a single match in September.

I am going to predict a draw in this match, I think Tottenham could have a Europa League hangover and Swansea at home are a difficult side to face.

Score: 1-1

David:

After a brilliant start to the season Swansea looked to have dipped in form a bit recently just as Tottenham look to be finding form winning their last three league games.

I am going to go for a draw however because Spurs could be hit by a Europa League hangover having played Monaco Thursday night.

Score: 1-1
