There were two big signings Thursday – Nicolas Otamendi signing for Manchester City for a fee of up to £32 million and Pedro signing for Chelsea for a fee of up to £21.4 million.
Nicolas Otamendi completed his move to Manchester City early Thursday morning, after being interested in him for the past few weeks. At one point it did look as though Manchester United were going to sign him, but the interest didn’t result in any official bid.
And then on Thursday afternoon, Chelsea announced the signing of Pedro. Pedro up until Monday evening was going to join Manchester United. However, them dithering over the terms of how Pedro’s buy-out clause would be paid, allowed Chelsea to quickly swoop in and conclude the deal.
Manchester United released a statement to the press saying that they ended their interest in Pedro. Now this is probably true, if Pedro was off to Chelsea, why would they waste their time competing in a losing race, it was best for them to move on and try to get someone else. They could get someone as good, or even better, who knows, but it looks like dithering for ages with Barcelona cost them.
To be honest, who dither’s over £21.4 million for a player like Pedro. In the market right now, that could be seen as more than fair.
Pedro will be a great signing for Chelsea, just him signing has given the club a lift after their poor start.
Will Pedro start for Chelsea this weekend?
