Premier League predictions 2015/2016: Round 3

Round 3 of the Premier League and once again we have a big game at the top of the table in the race for the top four and the ever important Champions League as Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

Elsewhere Chelsea will be looking to get the first win of their title defence as they take on West Brom, while Manchester City will be looking to keep the pressure on them with a win over Everton at Goodison Park.

We as ever are here with our predictions.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United (12:45pm)

Megan:

Manchester United should win this. They are at home and have confidence after their good start to the season. Newcastle are still adjusting to Steve McClaren as well.

Some pressure on Wayne Rooney perhaps to perform as the striker, he hasn’t impressed many in the opening three games.

Score: 3-0

David:

We start with a nice easy one and despite neither side being particularly brilliant so far, with the talent Manchester United have they should win.

Memphis Depay was sensational against Club Brugge mid-week and if he can play like that again in this game he’ll be on the scoresheet. Wayne Rooney has a good record of scoring against Newcastle as well so he’ll be hoping to end his goalless run.

Newcastle look just as clueless as ever under Steve McClaren.

Score: 2-0

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa (3pm)

Megan:

I am going for a Palace win, I think their attack will cause problems for Villa. However, Palace do concede, so Villa will get chances, so I do feel they will get on the score sheet.

Score: 2-1

David:

I think Crystal Palace will win this one. Palace can create and score chances, Aston Villa cannot. Simple as that really.

Palace got at Arsenal on Sunday and exposed their defence on a couple of occasions while Villa struggled to do much of anything against Manchester United on Friday evening.

Score: 2-0

Leicester vs Tottenham (3pm)

Megan:

Leicester have got off to a fantastic start, whereas Tottenham haven’t. I have a feeling that this game will end all square, but with some goals being scored.

Score: 2-2

David:

Leicester have got off to a brilliant start with two wins out of two and they have played some good football as well. Spurs don’t look like they have got going yet and are overly reliant on Harry Kane who is struggling to repeat his form of last season.

I’m going to be bold and go for a Leicester win.

Score: 3-2

Norwich vs Stoke (3pm)

Megan:

I am going to go for a Stoke win. I think Stoke had two difficult opening games and showed that they are a good side, and I think they will show that against Norwich.

Score: 0-2

David:

Tough one this.

Norwich looked good against Sunderland last weekend, but it’s only Sunderland so it’s hard to tell what that means. Stoke were unlucky against Liverpool the opening weekend but managed to fight back from 2-0 last weekend against Tottenham to earn a point.

I’m going to play it safe and go for a draw.

Score: 1-1

Sunderland vs Swansea (3pm)

Megan:

Swansea win. Swansea have been really impressive in the opening two games, while Sunderland have been the complete opposite.

I think this will be pretty comfortable for Swansea.

Score: 0-3

David:

This is easily the most one sided game this weekend and as a result I’m going for a very comfortable Swansea win.

Swansea have looked brilliant in their opening two fixtures, they attack with such pace and intensity that they will cause the Sunderland players all kinds of problems. Sunderland meanwhile have just looked hopeless with their players not bothering to close the opposition down which will cost them dearly against Swansea.

Score: 0-4

West Ham vs Bournemouth (3pm)

Megan:

Bournemouth were unlucky on Monday, they had a goal harshly ruled out and to make matters worse the linesman then had a shocker and failed to rule offside Christian Benteke’s winning goal. It was appalling, a linesman can’t be getting that wrong.

Anyways onto the prediction, I think West Ham will win this, bouncing back from their defeat last weekend.

Score: 2-0

David:

Both sides were hard done by the referees in their matches last weekend, with such terrible officiating that have cost them both points, however they need to put that behind them and focus on this match.

I’m going to go for a West Ham win. They’ve made some great signings, are playing well, and just have more Premier League know how than Bournemouth.

Score: 2-1

West Brom vs Chelsea (1:30pm)

Megan:

Chelsea have to win this, and I expect them to do so. I think the singing of Pedro will have lifted the team, which is exactly what they needed.

Score: 1-2

David:

Chelsea have to win. Simple as that.

They’ve signed Pedro from Barcelona which will hopefully give the team a much needed confidence boost as well as a kick up the backside, there is now some real competition for places that had been missing before.

West Brom are yet to score this season and if Chelsea go out and play like they did at times last season that wait could get a bit longer.

Score: 0-3

Everton vs Manchester City (4pm)

Megan:

I think Manchester City will follow on from how they started the season and will pick up the win.

Score: 1-2

David:

Everton are a bit of a bogey team for Manchester City, especially at Goodison Park, and after last week’s impressive display against Southampton at St Mary’s Everton must believe they can get something from this match.

Manchester City meanwhile will be looking to continue their impressive start and keep the pressure on Chelsea by getting a win.

I think it’ll be close but City will win it.

Score: 1-2

Watford vs Southampton (4pm)

Megan:

I am going to go for a draw. I think Watford could take advantage of the fact that Southampton had Europa League on Thursday night and Southampton were far from their best, so it might just give Watford confidence.

Score: 1-1

David:

Southampton played Thursday night in the Europa League which could have an affect on them but that shouldn’t matter too much. They should still have the quality to beat Watford.

Score: 1-2

afc vs lfc

Arsenal vs Liverpool (8pm)

Megan:

I am going to go for an Arsenal win. I think Arsenal will trouble Liverpool defensively, as well as stop Liverpool from scoring. Stoke and Bournemouth both played well against Liverpool, but away from home to Arsenal, I think they will struggle.

Score: 2-0

David:

We end with a big game Monday night and so far neither of teams have really impressed. Liverpool have been lucky to scrape two 1-0 wins while Arsenal lost to West Ham at home in their opening game before just scraping past Crystal Palace last weekend.

I’m going to go for an Arsenal win. They have home advantage and I think they just have better players. Both sides have vulnerable defences that can be exposed and exploited but Arsenal have a match winner in Alexis Sanchez that Liverpool just don’t have.

Score: 2-1
