The first game of this weekend again involves Manchester United, who hosted Newcastle.
Manchester United and Newcastle ended in a 0-0 draw.
Manchester United very much started the better side, it looked like a question of when they were going to score as opposed to if.
Wayne Rooney did have the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside, which looked incorrect, he looked to be in line. However, Newcastle grew into the game and they had a couple of chances themselves, Aleksandar Mitrovic hit the crossbar and Ayoze Perez shot just wide.
It was 0-0 at half-time, which would have pleased Newcastle given the start.
The second half was a solid defensive display from Newcastle. Manchester United struggled to break down Newcastle. Juan Mata blast a shot earlier, which he should have got on target and Tim Krul made a fantastic save late on to deny Chicharito.
Both teams had the opportunity to win it, as Manchester United hit the post, after which the ball was cleared, which saw Newcastle break, Papiss Cisse playing the ball across goal, but unfortunately Florian Thauvin couldn’t get on the end of it.
A draw was probably a fair result, but in the week when a lot of talk has been about Manchester United not signing Pedro, the last thing Louis Van Gaal would have wanted is his team struggling to create.
No doubt he will be going into the market, probably for a striker, as questions are being asked of Wayne Rooney. Rooney and Chicharito are not enough striking options.
See you tomorrow for more match reviews.
